Why Am I Running?I ordinarily wouldn't run against an incumbent Republican in the primary. I was a little surprised and disappointed to see that my opponent was given only a C grade by the National Rifle Association -- which is a bit startling in our district -- but when I saw that the incumbent was sponsoring a bill to add "sexual orientation and gender identity" to Idaho's law prohibiting employment discrimination, I said to myself, "He can't possibly understand what this means." The more I look at the incumbent's record, the more it seems that he is out of touch with the traditional values of the district -- and not just on these two issues, but many others. He doesn't represent the majority of us in the 22nd district; it's time for him to go. |
